The Brand Audit Series / Your Logo: Is It Working?

It’s such a common pain point for small business owners: Is my logo working? As a professional designer I hear it all the time and know the way it can cripple one’s confidence. Find out once and for all if your logo is working for your business and …

Welcome to week two of the Brand Audit Series! If you missed week one, you’ll definitely want to start there, as each week builds upon the last. Once you’ve read that one, join us back here.

Let’s Talk About Your Logo

Do you have doubts about your logo? Maybe you wonder if it represents your business well or if it’s attracting the right people. Maybe that’s actually not the case for you and you love your logo, but you don’t realize that it might not be effective for your business.

Wherever you land, we’re going to discuss how you can identify if your logo is doing its job. Even if you don’t have a logo for your business yet, you can learn a lot from this post that will help you as you begin the branding process for your business.

Your Brand

In 3-5 adjectives how would you describe your brand? How do you want it to be perceived in the marketplace?

Now take a look at your logo. Would you use those same words to describe it?

Better yet, how would other people describe it? Ask friends and family, past customers or clients, social media followers, or check out the free bonus at the end of this post for professional feedback ;)

Your Ideal Audience

What do they like? What kind of taste do they have? Specifically, what other brands do they like? This can provide great insight as to whether or not your logo and overall branding is appealing to the right people.

When you get inquiries are they from dream clients? If you find you’re attracting less than ideal clients this could be a sign that your logo is not working. Of course, there could be many other reasons for this as well, but taking a critical look at your logo is a good place to start.

Your Competition

Does your logo make you stand out from the crowd or are you a wedding florist with a watercolor and calligraphy logo that looks like every other logo in your industry? It doesn’t matter how much you may love your logo, if it’s not helping you stand out among your peers, it’s not doing you any favors.

DIY & Pre-made Logos

If you made your own logo or bought a pre-made one, chances are pretty high that it isn’t the best long-term solution for your business. You can read more about that here. To sum it up, it’s not uniquely representing your brand and chances are good that the quality is not high.

Investing in a professional, custom logo will do wonders not only for your business, but also for your confidence as a business owner. I’ve seen this first-hand so many times and it’s amazing!

Overview

Here’s a quick little test to help you determine if it’s time for a new logo:

  • Would you use the same words to describe your logo as you would your business? Y/N

  • Does your logo align with what your audience likes? Y/N

  • Are you attracting dream clients? Y/N

  • Is your logo different from that of your competitors? Y/N

  • Was your logo custom-made by a professional designer? Y/N

If you answered no to any of these questions it’s very possible that your logo is not doing it’s job. If that’s you, then you’ll definitely want to take advantage of this offer…
